Lucas Co. unclaimed funds listed on Web site

Lucas County Auditor Anita Lopez has launched an online listing of unclaimed funds.

Citizens can search the site for funds owed to them at www.co.lucas.oh.us/index.aspx?nid=2179.

Ms. Lopez emphasized that money from 2006 must be claimed by Dec. 31 or it will roll over into the county's general fund. "We want to make sure the public is aware of this and they understand the procedure to claim the funds." Residents can claim the money on their own without the assistance of a third-party company, she added.

The unclaimed funds total $1,093,587.80, Ms. Lopez said. Most of the money belongs to individuals, though some is owed to companies, banks, and even the city of Toledo. The amounts range from as little as $10 up to about $20,000. "For some individuals, this could be a Merry Christmas," she said.

Those without Internet access can call the auditor's office at 419-213-4406 for assistance searching or retrieving funds.
