Five people were injured — two of whom had to be extricated — in a two-car crash Wednesday night in East Toledo.

Simon Mickles, 54, of St. Clair Street in Toledo was westbound on Woodville Road when he ran the red light at Nevada Street, Officer Jeff Dorner said. The Mickles vehicle struck an oncoming car driven by John Park, 45, of Nevada, which was turning from eastbound Woodville to eastbound Nevada.

The crash was reported about 8:10 p.m., authorities said.

Mr. Mickles and his passenger, Robert Gaston, 38, of Western Avenue, were not wearing seat belts and had to be freed from the car by Toledo firefighters. Mr. Mickles was taken to Mercy St. Charles Hospital. Mr. Gaston and another passenger, Mikarsha Gray, 40, of Western Avenue, were taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center. The condition of Mr. Mickles and his passengers was not available.

Mr. Park was taken to St. Vincent, but no condition was available. Police said his passenger, Michael Utter, 7 months, of Nevada, was taken to St. Vincent. A hospital spokesman said there was no information about a patient by that name.

Police accident investigators and reconstructionists were on scene.
