A fourth grade student at Sylvania’s Central Elementary remained on suspension Thursday while school authorities and police were investigating claims that he might have brought a pellet gun to school, authorities said.

Sylvania Township police Lt. Robert Austin said staff members at the boy’s day care center found a BB gun in his backpack Monday and notified the school, which then called township police. The police department began its probe into the alleged incident on Wednesday, he said.

“We still have to speak with the child and with his parents,” Lieutenant Austin said.

Nancy Crandell, communications director for Sylvania Schools, said the boy remained on suspension Thursday pending the results of a joint investigation by the school district and township police.

The name of the student was not released. The school is at 7460 Central Ave.
