Girl, 11, hurt critically when struck by auto

An 11-year-old West Toledo girl who was hit by a car as she crossed the street was in critical condition Wednesday night.

Toledo police said Aryelle Hutch­erson and her 10-year-old sister of West Central Avenue got off a Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority bus about 4:05 p.m. in the 1500 block of West Central. The sister crossed Central. Aryelle, though, was hit by the side of a car driven by Jermain Shores, 19, of Beaumont Drive, which was eastbound on Central in the curb lane.

Officer Jeff Dorner said Aryelle and Mr. Shores could not see each other before the collision because another vehicle had stopped in traffic to allow the sisters to pass.

Aryelle was taken to Toledo Hospital. No citations will be issued, Officer Dorner said.
