Road work planned to support Tecumseh-area factory expansion

TECUMSEH, Mich. -- The Michigan Department of Transportation has announced plans for road improvements near Tecumseh to support a factory expansion expected to create 128 jobs.

The state will provide $701,362 from its Transportation Economic Development Fund for a center left-turn lane on M-50 at an entrance to the Lenawee Stamping Corp. loading docks and for resurfacing part of Rogers Highway near a Lenawee Stamping warehouse. The city of Tecumseh will provide $179,108 in local matching funds.

"This project will assist Lenawee Stamping, Tecumseh's largest employer, in creating new jobs at their Tecumseh facility," Mayor Dick Johnson said in an MDOT statement. "It will help alleviate congestion and improve traffic flow at the M-50/Rogers Highway intersection, which is a major trucking route for Lenawee Stamping and other Tecumseh employers."

The company is expected to spend $8.3 million on expanding its local plant, having ruled out several Ohio building sites and facilities.

MDOT expects to build the M-50 turn lane next year. No schedule was announced for the city project, under which Rogers will be repaved between Russell Road and M-50 and turn lanes will be added on Rogers at M-50.
