Winter not ready to let go
4/10/2012So you thought snow was over for the season in Toledo because of March’s record-breaking warmth? Surprise!
Snow flurries blew through northern Ohio and southern Michigan Tuesday, riding strong winds off the Great Lakes that accompanied the arrival of an unseasonably cold air mass.
More flurries are forecast through the predawn hours Wednesday, after which skies are expected to clear. The National Weather Service predicted sunny and cool weather for the region Wednesday and Thursday.
A broad swath of the eastern and midwestern United States, from central Appalachia to west of the Missouri River, was under a freeze warning overnight. Although Toledo was not included in the warn area because of forecast cloud cover that would keep the weather relatively warm, the forecast Wednesday morning low at Toledo Express Airport was 32, and counties adjoining Lucas County to the west and north were included in the freeze warning.
The chilly conditions are in sharp contrast to unseasonable warmth that produced the warmest March in Toledo’s history, including a record-shattering 15 straight days of 60-degrees or warmer weather and all-time March highs of 85 degrees on March 21 and 22.
