The Olander Park System will hold its Sylvania Summer Safety Community Fair from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday in Olander Park's Nederhouser Community Hall.

Park system naturalist Sandra Gratop said the fair will feature advice and demonstrations on how to stay safe on the water and land.

"Safety First is our philosophy and we want to show users of the park system how to adopt that lifestyle," she said.

There will be tips from the Metroparks of the Toledo Area Trail Patrol along with police officers and firefighters from Sylvania Township and the city of Sylvania.

Township police officers Dan Krajicek and Jeffrey Matuszewski will discuss the dangers of drug use. From the city, Officer Scott Hendricks will talk about bullying. The township fire department's "Smoke House" will be there. It's a trailer used for training people how to get out of burning buildings.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources will simulate a boat rescue. Other presentations will include cardiopulmonary resuscitation, bike safety, and children's car seats, Ms. Gratop said.

There will be free hot dogs, and from 4 to 7 p.m. paddle boat and rowboat rides.

The JCC/YMCA, Lourdes University, the Sylvania schools, the Sylvania Area Joint Recreation District, and the Sylvania Senior Center are among the participants.
