Open house scheduled at Penta project

High school students from Penta Career Center buit this 2,200-square-foot home at 10663 Eckel Junction Rd. It is to be open for public viewing May 20 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Students at Penta Career Center build Perrysburg house for class project. A house built by Penta Career Center students at 10663 Eckel Junction Rd. for the King family is to be open May 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. During this school year, 150 high school students at Penta constructed the 2,200-square-foot house as part of their career training. The house, between Thompson Road and State Rt. 199, is a ranch style with three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and an unfinished second floor. Special features include nine-foot ceilings, a tray ceiling in the family room, tile and hardwood floors, granite countertops, a full brick front, a full basement, and a deck.

9 Owens students honored in juried student art exhibition. Nine Owens Community College students were recently honored as the Walter E. Terhune Art Gallery held its annual juried student art exhibition.

A jury composed of area artists and professionals selected the winning entries based on creative excellence. The exhibition was open to all students in fine and performing arts courses. The show, at the Perrysburg Township campus, featured more than 80 pieces in the categories of fine art, photography, and commercial art.

Fifty-five students participated.

Perrysburg Schools' Kevin Gorman writes book about principalship. Kevin Gorman, executive director of pupil services for Perrysburg Schools, has written Preparing to Be Next in Line: A Guide to the Principalship. It is available from booksellers including Amazon.com and Barnes&Noble.com.

Mr. Gorman wrote it to help new administrators meet the demands of educating children for the 21st century, including making ethical decisions, building relationships, prioritizing school safety, and improving communication and data skills.

Separating theory from practical solutions, the book is based on best practices and active research to provide new principals with both the theory and the practical aspects to help guarantee their success.
