Toledo officials have scheduled a third community forum regarding upcoming work to clean a sewer tunnel that runs under Superior and Lagrange streets between Fifth Third Field and Toledo's near North End.

The meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. May 24 in city council chambers has been set up primarily to address issues related to the work in the residential area north of downtown Toledo.

Sessions scheduled for today at 6 p.m. and Wednesday at 2 p.m. at 300 Madison Ave., Room 807, are geared primarily toward downtown businesses and building owners. The Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce is host for the sessions.

A representative from the contractor, Doetsch Environmental Services, is to discuss the project and the schedule at all three meetings.

Built in the late 1980s, the 5.7 million-gallon tunnel is a retention tank for Toledo's sewage-treatment plant to regulate flow during high-volume periods such as rainstorms. Large vacuum equipment is to extract accumulated gunk from and deposited it into sealed containers for nightly removal.

Noise is expected to be primary public inconvenience. The clean- out is expected to start in early June and conclude by mid-October, with most of the work expected to occur at the tunnel's Lagrange Street leg.
