Some Oregon school board members said they were displeased by the lack of competitive bids but voted today to award several construction contracts anyway so the work is finished for the next school year.

The board approved five contracts totalling $404,611 during its meeting.

The district only received one bid for three of those projects at Eisenhower and Fassett middle schools.

Two contracts were for $47,000 apiece to build glass walls at the Eisenhower and Fassett gyms to Edifice Restoration Contractors of Holland. The third was $132,111 for seats in the Fassett auditorium to Folding Equipment Company, the only company in the Toledo area that specializes in that service.

Another contract was $55,000 to Advanced Roofing Systems, Maumee, the lowest of six bidders, for a new roof for the Clay High School band room.

The board also approved a $123,500 contract for repaving the parking lot and playground at Coy Elementary to Henry W. Bergman Inc. of Genoa. It was the lowest of five bids.
