More than 3,000 people will take a step toward living a hearth-healthy lifestyle Saturday at the American Heart Association Toledo Heart Walk and 10K Run event.

The annual event raises funds to support heart disease and stroke research as well as educational programs in both Lucas and Wood Counties and throughout Ohio. It also promotes walking as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Walkers will represent companies in Toledo as well as neighborhoods and community groups.

Participants who are heart disease or stroke survivors will wear red caps.

The fund-raising goal for this year’s event is $330,000.

The event will begin with a Kids Run at 9 a.m., opening ceremonies at 9:30 a.m., the 10K Run at 9:45 a.m., and the 5K Walk at 10:15 a.m. at the University of Toledo's Glass Bowl Stadium. Participants can register at 8 a.m. and festivities will conclude at noon.
