FINDLAY -- The first full-time member assigned to the University of Findlay's hazardous materials management program will be honored today with the dedication of a new campus training center in his name.

The Daniel W. Hehr Memorial HazMat Training Area, in the Renninger Building of the university's All Hazards Training Center, will be dedicated at 3 p.m. in a ceremony open to the public.

Mr. Hehr joined the UF faculty in 1988 and developed and expanded the hazmat curriculum, which includes both associate's and bachelor's degree programs. He was instrumental in creating training scenarios at Renninger for the Emergency Response Training Center -- now the All Hazards center -- for its 1989 opening. Exercises cover confined-space entry and rescue, asbestos removal, drum handling, and laboratory chemical removal and disposal.

The associate professor of hazardous materials management and assistant director of training services retired in 2004, and died March 28. An equipment and training fund at the university also is named in his memory.
