Pet Idol to be unleashed at MetroBarks event

The 9th Annual MetroBarks Festival will be held Saturday and features activities for all ages.

The event, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Secor Metropark in Sylvania Township, includes the announcement of the 2012 Pet Idol contest winner at 9:45. All finalists will be present for a meet-and-greet. The announcement and a special preshow will be televised live on WTOL, Channel 11, until 10.

Features include dachshund races, adoptions through area rescue groups, the Toledo Area Humane Society 5K run and walk, the Toledo Kennel Club mutt show, microchipping, a washing and grooming station, and an "ask the vet" booth.

The event is sponsored by The Blade, Planned Pethood, the Metroparks of the Toledo Area, the Toledo Kennel Club, Yark Subaru, the Toledo Area Humane Society, 7Up, The Andersons, and Karnik Pet Services.
