Guests at the Comfort Inn and Suites in Perrysburg Township were evacuated — most likely for the evening, fire officials said — after a fire broke out at the motel late this afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the Comfort Inn and Suites at the 27450 Helen Drive motel at 4 p.m. and were still on the scene at 6 p.m.

There were no reported injuries and all staff and hotel visitors were evacuated, said Tom Brice, chief of the Perrysburg Township Fire Department. Twenty-five of the 41 guest rooms had been occupied.

“When we got here the fire was well involved within the floors and the walls,” the chief said.

It is unlikely that hotel occupants will be able to reenter the premises tonight given that much of the first and second floors were filled with smoke, Chief Brice said.

A portion of Helen Drive in the direct vicinity of the Comfort Inn was closed off by police.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, Chief Brice said.
