Cherry Street Missions seeks donations of ice and bottled water to serve its homeless and poverty-stricken population, Dan Rogers, president and chief executive officer, said Thursday.

He said the shelter uses about 300 bottles of water a day to keep its visitors hydrated, especially on days as hot as those this week.

The shelter sent pleas for donations via email, Facebook, and Twitter. Mr. Rogers said the community is always extremely helpful when the shelter makes these requests, and many donations have been received.

The shelter will continue to send out pleas for water and ice so it can stockpile supplies for the summer, Mr. Rogers said.

Donations can be dropped off at 1919 Madison Ave. between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
