Lucas County Chief of Staff Bridgette Kabat is the leading — and only — contender for the Perrysburg city administrator job, Mayor Nelson Evans said today.

Mayor Evans made the announcement after an executive session during a city personnel committee meeting.

The current administrator, John Alexander, plans to retire July 27.

Ms. Kabat interviewed with the mayor and two council members Monday.

The mayor said the city is doing background checks and he is talking with city employees to get their opinions. If the city offers the job to Ms. Kabat, that offer could be made next week with Perrysburg City Council approving the hiring at a July 10 meeting, the mayor said.

The job pays up to $114,000 annually, city officials had said earlier.

The city began a search for city administrator earlier this year but there were no clear front-runners. The city considered hiring a search firm but ultimately did not to save money, the mayor said.

Ms. Kabat, who has a financial background, is an 18-year county employee, Mayor Evans said.

“People seem to be pretty positive about her,” he said in Perrysburg. “She’s a strong candidate.”
