United Way of Greater Toledo, which aids Lucas, Wood, and Ottawa counties, was given a four-star rating -- the highest it could achieve -- by charity evaluator Charity Navigator, Kelli M. Kreps, marketing manager of United Way of Greater Toledo, announced Monday in a press release.

This is the second consecutive year and fifth time in six years that the organization has earned the honor. Only three other locally-rated nonprofit groups in Northwest Ohio have received such a high rating and only 16 percent of the charities rated by Charity Navigator have earned two consecutive four-star ratings.

"As always, this is a rating and distinction we don't take for granted," said Jane Moore, United Way of Greater Toledo's interim president and CEO, in the release.

In determining ratings, Charity Navigator considers accountability, transparency, and financial health measurement.
