Mission's anniversary celebration has family-fun focus

Cherry Street Mission Ministries will celebrate its 65th anniversary with a weekend celebration. The festivities begin Friday with outdoor family movie night. The fun starts at 7:30 p.m. with games and give-aways. The feature film will begin at 9:30 p.m. and Saturday's Family and Arts Festival festivities will begin at 11 a.m. with a sidewalk chalk art viewing. Events will run until 4 p.m. Lunch will be available for $3. Sunday's closing events included a community church service and celebration at 3 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. The Northwest Ohio Law Dogs Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club will host the inaugural Bikers for the Cure Ride on Saturday. The 143-mile poker run will travel through six northwestern Ohio counties and have five stops. An after-party will follow with food, music, silent auction, and raffles. Celebrate Independence Day with cannon firings, toast, music and a day of leisure at 4th of July at Fort Meigs. War of 1812 soldiers and civilians will recreate the day through cannon firings, demonstrations and hands-on activities for the children. The highlight of the day is the 18 gun National Salute accompanied by toasts and fife and drum music starting at 2 p.m. The event takes place from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday. Admission is $8 for adults; $7 for seniors, and $5 for students. Children younger than 5 are admitted free.
