Power still out for more than 10,000 homes, businesses along Lake Erie

Thousands remain without power today in central and northern Ohio, where strong storms blew through Friday and then again in some areas Sunday.

Storm-related tree and power line damage that occurred Sunday north along Ohio’s Michigan border and Lake Erie left more than 10,000 electricity customers in the dark.

Those outages paled in comparison with the tens of thousands of homes and businesses farther south that remained without power in the aftermath of Friday’s destructive weather. Many were expected to remain without lights — or air conditioning — for days to come. As of 3 p.m. today, AEP Ohio had 399,298 customers without power across the state this afternoon, including 14,294 in Hancock County and 8,629 in Putnam County, according to a utility spokesman.

A little farther north, 12 Toledo Edison customers remained without power in Lucas County, 17 in Williams County, 40 in Fulton County, nine in Henry County, and four in Wood County, a utility spokesman said.

In the Toledo area, there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms tonight, as well as Tuesday. Highs will remain in the low 90s through the week, according to the National Weather Service.
