The Lucas County commissioners are accepting applications for two seats on the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority board of directors for which the current terms expire July 31.

Applicants should "have demonstrated education and practical experience in business and financial administration," according to a commissioners' statement.

Port directors oversee operation of Toledo's Lake Erie port, its train station, two airports, and related transportation facilities. The agency also operates economic-development financing programs, is in charge of clean-ups of certain vacated industrial sites, and administers several community grants using part of the revenue from a property levy in Lucas County.

The board typically meets on the fourth Thursday of each month at 8 a.m., and directors also serve on committees.

The application deadline is July 13. Port authority appointments are for four-year terms.

Anyone interested in applying to become a port director must fill out the county's application for a public volunteer form and provide a detailed resume.

The forms are available in person at the county commissioners' office in Suite 800 at Government Center in downtown Toledo, or on the Lucas County Web site co.lucas.oh.us.

The two seats up for appointment are held by A. Bailey Stanbery and John Szuch.

Mr. Stanbery and Mr. Szuch said Monday that they will seek reappointment.
