Local celebration set for today

The Red, White, KABOOM event in downtown Toledo co-sponsored by The Blade Taylor Automotive Group, and Humana Inc. kicks off at noon today in Promenade Park with Taste of Toledo, which offers a variety of food from local restaurants.

The musical lineup includes Stephen Woolley at 12:30 p.m., Brynn and Emma at 2:30, In Theory at 3:45, Buck69 at 5, Bruce Sims featuring Jesse Coleman & The Jamm at 6:15, and the U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors at 8.

Independence Day celebrations elsewhere in the area include:

Fremont: The firing of Civil War cannons is to punctuate a patriotic concert by the Toledo Symphony Concert Band as the Hayes Presidential Center celebrates July Fourth with an outdoor Independence Day Concert today from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Admission to the concert is free.

Luna Pier: Annual Fireworks and Garage Sale will be Saturday at dusk.

Port Clinton: Fireworks will be today at dusk in Water Works Park.

Wauseon: A fireworks show today at dusk concludes celebratory events and activities at Dorothy Biddle Park beginning at 5:30 p.m.

HOLIDAY CLOSINGS

Toledo county, state, and federal government offices will be closed today in observance of Independence Day, as will be Oregon, Maumee, Perrysburg, and Sylvania city offices. Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicle deputy registrar sites statewide will be closed as well.

Following is a list of selected businesses and services:

Schools

Owens Community College's Perrysburg Township and Findlay area campuses as well as the Arrowhead Park Learning Center in Maumee and the Learning Center at The Source in downtown Toledo will be closed. The University of Toledo will have no classes.

Mail service

Post offices are closed; mail will not be delivered.

Public utilities

Toledo's Department of Public Utilities will be closed, along with Toledo Edison and its parent company, FirstEnergy. Emergency services will be available.

Parking

Meter parking in downtown Toledo is free.

Retail centers

Westfield Franklin Park and the Mall at Fallen Timbers are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Levis Commons is closed.

Trash pickup

Refuse collection is delayed one day for Toledo residents; collection services in other communities vary.

Bus services

Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority buses are operating on a Sunday schedule, with extended lineup trips after the downtown Toledo fireworks display. Service is free all day in celebration of 150 years of public transportation in Toledo.

Libraries

The Main Toledo-Lucas County Public Library downtown and all its branches are closed.
