Perrysburg transit advocates, who are preparing to launch a levy campaign, will meet later this month to plan.

The group of private citizens will meet at 7 p.m. on July 30 at Kingston Residence of Perrysburg, 333 E. Boundary St.

Perrysburg city council members vowed to place a property tax property proposal on the Nov. 6 ballot to fund an independent transit system

after voters approved in March opting out of the Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority.

Later this week, city council will move forward in designing what a new public transportation system could look like.

At a 1:30 p.m. special work session Friday, city officials will open the bids submitted by transit companies that are seeking to operate a

shuttle service for the city.

Councilman J. Todd Grayson, the leading voice on council in the transit discussion, said the city wants to operate a shuttle service, similar to TARTA’s Call-A-Ride and TARPS, to provide service for senior citizens and people who are disabled.

On July 17, city council will hold a 6:00 p.m. meeting to discuss the bids further and get public feedback.

By a July 31 meeting, council should know how much the new transportation system will cost and the levy amount needed to fund it

from the Wood County Auditor’s Office.

At that meeting, council could vote to place a new tax proposal on the November ballot, Tim Fisher, deputy finance director, has previously

said.
