2 appointed to boards in Bedford Township

TEMPERANCE -- The Bedford Township Board has made appointments to two township panels.

Edwin Throm of Kingsboro Court joins the library advisory board, and Robert Potter of W. Temperance Road becomes a member of the board of zoning appeals.

Mr. Throm's term runs through 2014, Mr. Potter's through this year. Mr. Throm replaces Elizabeth Koster, who resigned; Mr. Potter has been second alternate on the zoning panel and fills a vacancy left by Richard Brunt's resignation.

The board last week also approved establishment of a road improvement special assessment district for plats three, four, and five of the Springbrook subdivision. The upgrades will cost $45,000. Property owners will pay $700 per parcel.

The board also established an assessment district for street improvements in the Canterbury Forest subdivison, but the cost of the work is not yet known.

Mark Jagodzinski, general manager of Lake Erie Transit, asked the board to support his agency's 0.25-mill levy renewal that will appear on the township's Aug. 7 ballot. He said continuing the tax, which funds Bedford's Dial-A-Ride Service, would cost the owner of a $150,000 home $20 annually.

Dial-A-Ride is the township's only public transportation and connects with TARTA at Westfield Franklin Park mall.

Mr. Jagodzinski said Lake Erie Transit reduced its costs by about 6 percent this year and had reached an agreement with its employees that would save $100,000 in medical insurance costs.

He said the transit agency operated two buses eight hours a day and another for five hours. All buses are equipped with bike racks and lifts, and one has no steps, for easy entry.

Trustee Jim Goebel, president of the Bedford Senior Community Center board, noted that many seniors depended on Dial-A-Ride.
