I-75 expansion at Findlay studied
7/19/2012FINDLAY -- Field studies to prepare for the proposed reconstruction and widening of I-75 through Findlay have begun, the Ohio Department of Transportation announced.
The project to widen I-75 between Hancock County Road 144, which is just south of the U.S. 68/State Rt. 15 interchange, and County Road 99 north of town has no construction funding, although state officials will proceed with planning to make construction possible starting in 2016 if funding is arranged, the agency's district office in Lima said in a statement.
The studies will focus on identifying elements of "historical significance, wetlands, protected wildlife, property lines, drainage features, and any potentially contaminated sites so we can have an accurate assessment of what exists within the project area," said Kirk Slusher, the agency's district deputy director in Lima.
Along with widening I-75 from four lanes to six in the planned zone, the proposed project would include rebuilding the U.S. 68/State Rt. 15 interchange and the neighboring Lima Avenue ramps on Routes 68/15. A public meeting about the proposal remains to be scheduled.
