July in Toledo ranks as 5th warmest ever

The month just concluded was the fifth warmest July on record in Toledo, but despite three 100-degree highs, its average temperature was cooler than a year ago, records show.

The average daily mean temperature last month was 77.9 degrees, 4.3 degrees warmer than normal for July, according to the National Weather Service office in Cleveland. But during July, 2011, Toledo's average daily mean was 78.8 degrees -- second only to the 79.0-degree record for the month set in 1921.

The mercury hit 100 on July 4, 7, and 17, and topped 90 degrees nine other times last month.

Although Toledo's weather remained 2.52 inches drier than normal for the year as a whole, July was slightly wetter than average. As of 8 p.m. Tuesday, 3.45 inches of rain had fallen at Toledo Express Airport, the official reporting station. The amount was 0.33 inch above normal.
