Lucas County board OKs levies for ballot

Lucas County commissioners finalized approval Tuesday for three of the levies Lucas County voters will see on the ballot in the Nov. 6 general election.

The approved requests are a new 1-mill, 10-year tax for the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board, a 1-mill levy renewal plus a new 0.85-mill tax for Lucas County Children's Services, and a five-year renewal of Imagination Station's 0.17-mill levy.

The new mental-health tax would cost the owner of a $100,000 house $30.63 annually and yield about $7.9 million annually for the agency.

The new children services levy would produce about $14.9 million in annual revenue once its collection starts in 2014. It would boost the annual tax bill on a $100,000 home $26.03 to $56.66 a year for children services.

The Imagination Station levy yields $1.3 million annually for the science center and costs the owner of a $100,000 home $5.21 per year.
