Area firefighters extinguished an oil pit fire at the American Steel Treating Inc. factory in Perrysburg on Sunday.

There were no injuries and no evacuations of area homes, Perrysburg Fire Chief Jeff Klein said.

Fire crews arrived at 525 W. Sixth St. about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, responding to an alarm set off by the activation of the factory's sprinkler system, Chief Klein said.

Upon arrival, fire crews were met by maintenance personnel and saw smoke coming from vents on the sides of the building. Once they entered the building, they saw flames coming from the oil pit. Firefighters extinguished the blaze by about 4 a.m.

A piece of equipment sparked, setting the oil on fire, Chief Klein said. No damage estimate was available. Perrysburg Township fire crews helped fight the fire.
