The Maritime Academy of Toledo raised more than $30,000 and enrolled 34 students during Navy Week last week, said Renee Marazon, school superintendent.

The academy's concessions sales to the more than 33,000 people who visited downtown Toledo during the Aug. 23-27 visits of five ships raised $17,000 for the school, Ms. Marazon said. Other funds came in from a welcoming reception sponsored by Medical Mutual of Ohio and various donations, she said.

Along with the new enrollments attributable to the event, the academy has received requests for information about its programs, Ms. Marazon said.

Academy students participated in numerous activities with Navy sailors during the week. The academy is preparing a report.
