FREMONT — Seneca County Prosecutor Derek DeVine has been appointed special prosecutor in a case involving a Fremont city official who has been placed on paid leave for undisclosed reasons.

Safety Service Director Marc Glotzbecker was placed on administrative leave effective Aug. 14. Mr. Devine declined to comment Thursday on the nature of the investigation but said he was named Aug. 23 at the request of Sandusky County Prosecutor Tom Stierwalt. Tiffin police and the state auditor's office are involved in the inquiry.

Mr. Glotzbecker, who was Fremont's recreation department supervisor since 2004, was named safety service director in March. Fremont Mayor Jim Ellis has declined to comment on why the action was taken and has refused to release his personnel file until he receives legal counsel.
