BOWLING GREEN — Toledo-born feminist writer and activist Gloria Steinem is to be at Bowling Green State University on Sept. 24 and 25 as part of a celebration of the work of the Women’s Equity Action League and its founder, Elizabeth “Betty” Boyer.

According to BGSU, the two-day event will be focused on the more than 40 years of accomplishments by the action league, which “rallied for equal educational and extracurricular activities for women in schools, equal job opportunities and training for women in the workforce, child support laws and their enforcement, and the passage of the still unratified Equal Rights Amendment.”

Ms. Boyer, a 1937 BGSU alumna, was the founding president of the league, which ceased operations this year.

Tickets are $50 for a gala dinner at 6 p.m. on Sept. 24 at the Bowen-Thompson Student Union. Ms. Steinem will be the keynote speaker for the event. She also will be the guest of BGSU President Mary Ellen Mazey at a brunch at the University House on Sept. 25. The brunch costs $250 and is open to the first 50 who register. More information is available at bgsu.edu/weal or by contacting the BGSU Women’s Center at 419-372-7227.
