World War II and Korean War veterans will head for Washington on Sept. 26 for the final Honor Flight of the year.

The veterans — 49 from the Korean War and 35 who served during World War II — will tour several memorials during the day-long trip. The flight is the fifth of the year and the 27th since the inaugural flight in April, 2008.

Not counting the latest group. 1,157 veterans have participated in the Northwest Ohio program, Honor Flight officials said.

The public is invited to attend the send off and welcome home, both at the Grand Aire hangar — one mile west of the main terminal at Toledo Express Airport, 11777 W. Airport Service Rd., Swanton. The send off is scheduled between 7 and 9 a.m.; the welcome home is scheduled between 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. To attend, adults must have a valid photo ID; anyone younger than 18 does not need an ID if he or she is accompanied by an adult.
