The YMCA/JCC of Greater Toledo will search for a new leader following the departure announcement of Todd Tibbits, the organization’s chief executive officer and president.

Mr. Tibbits, 44, will leave Toledo for a job as chief operating officer for the YMCA of the Greater Twin Cities in Minnesota. The Toledo YMCA announced his departure today; he starts his new position Dec. 1.

“It’s been great to be part of an organization that is truly committed to the community,” Mr. Tibbits said.

His 20 years of YMCA experience includes 13 years with the Toledo organization, during which time he helped open the Francis Family YMCA and launch a program for at-risk teens. Mr. Tibbits took on his current duties in 2010.

He will continue to work in Toledo until the end of November.

A search for the next local CEO will start with assistance from the Y-USA national organization, said Rob Koenig, chairman of the Toledo YMCA board of trustees. The hiring process typically takes about six months, and an interim leader may be named, he said.

Mr. Koenig said Mr. Tibbits served as a motivator and resource for YMCA staff, the board, and community.

“He really has an excellent sense of what the YMCA mission is about,” Mr. Koenig said.
