FREMONT — The Ohio Supreme Court has agreed to delay a special election for the new Sandusky County municipal judgeship.

The court Tuesday granted a stay sought by the Sandusky County commissioners and the county board of elections to postpone a Dec. 11 special election until the high court rules on an appeal filed by the police chiefs and mayors of Woodville and Gibsonburg. They contend the state legislature’s consolidation of the county courts in Woodville and Clyde is unconstitutional.

In asking to delay the special election, county officials said they wanted to avoid incurring expenses and minimize voter confusion in the event the court modifies or overrules an order by the U.S. 6th District Court of Appeals to hold an election in December.
