Toledo leaf collection to start Monday

Toledo’s annual leaf-collection campaign starts Monday in the 43613 ZIP Code area, and city officials have urged residents to start raking their leaves ahead of time.

Signs will be posted along streets in each neighborhood several days before leaf pickup is scheduled, but people may begin depositing leaves — and leaves only — along pavement edges and curbs now.

Residents on curbed streets should rake their leaves just over the curb edge, while those on uncurbed streets should place them at the edge of pavement, officials said. People should not place leaves on boulevard or cul-de-sac islands.

Leaves should not be bagged, and other yard waste should not be included. Sticks, twigs, and grass clippings can clog or break leaf-collecting machinery and delay pickup schedules.

Pickups begin in West Toledo and South Toledo neighborhoods with the most trees, then hit East Toledo and central-city areas before starting a second pass through the city. The second pass can be affected by early winter weather.

Residents interested in riding along with leaf-collection crews during the pickups should contact the city division of streets, bridges, and harbor at 419-936-2523.

For a more complete pickup schedule, go to www.toledo.oh.gov, go to the Division of Streets. Bridges & Harbors under “Departments,” and click on “Leaf Collection” on the right.
