Delta scrap yard targeted in IRS investigation

DELTA, Ohio — A Fulton County scrap yard is under investigation by the IRS Criminal Investigations Division.

Federal investigators arrived at the Ohio Scrap Corp. on U.S. 20 early Thursday, a Fulton County Sheriff's Office deputy said.

The sheriff’s office is not involved but received advance notice that an investigation was going to be under way. Sheriff’s officials said they were not told the purpose of the investigation.

IRS officials could not be reached Thursday. A person who initially identified himself as an employee at the scrap business hung up the phone when contacted by The Blade.

The IRS’ Criminal Investigations Division handles probes into financial-related crimes, according to the IRS Web site.

Ohio Scrap Corp. specializes in auto parts including machinery and aluminum, according to an online business description.
