Workers at Hostess Brands Inc. facilities across the nation. including the bakery in Northwood, went on strike against the baker of Twinkies, Wonder Bread, and other products.

The union representing workers said in a statement the strike was a response to the company's unilateral imposition of "a horrendous contract that was rejected by 92 percent of the union's Hostess members in September."

The Irving, Texas-based company said in a statement a widespread strike would cause the company to liquidate if it can't produce or deliver products. In that case, Hostess would lay off most of its 18,300-member workforce and "focus on selling its assets to the highest bidders." Hostess has bakeries in Northwood and Defiance and outlet stores in Toledo and Northwood.
