City officials and Columbia Gas have reached an agreement to suspend gas-line construction along parts of Monroe Street and Secor Road until after New Year's Day.

Deputy Mayor Steve Herwat has told The Blade that all lanes will reopen next week on both streets near their intersection and work will not resume until after the holidays.

The decision followed the newspaper's report in today's edition about lane closings in the busy Monroe-Secor area being extended until the middle of December. Columbia is replacing gas lines in the area in advance of a city project to rebuild Secor between Monroe and Central Avenue.

Monroe is a major route to Westfield Franklin Park, Toledo's busiest shopping mall, and the surrounding commercial area.
