The public is invited to the second annual Wassail Festival downtown from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 14. The event will feature tastings of mulled cider drinks, known as wassail, prepared with wine from Blissfield’s J Tree Cellars. More than 10 versions will be available.

To attend, stop at the welcome booth at Mohr’s Barber Shop, 112 S. Lane St., to buy a $12 commemorative ceramic mug for the festival. The purchase also covers a punch card to rate each drink, a wristband, and a map of participating locations. Attendees must be 21 or older.

For those who wish to abstain from alcohol, hot chocolate will be available at Cakes ’n Shakes.

Two fire-pit warming stations where carolers can sing will be offered. The Cynnabar Collegium Musicum carolers will wear Medieval costumes as they sing traditional holiday songs.

The evening closes with a trophy for the best wassail. It will be given out at the B-Town Bar and Grill, where the Blissfield Rotary will draw the winning ticket for its raffle for free gas for a year.

Wassail is a traditional English beverage consumed to celebrate Christmas and the New Year. The word is Old English for “to your health.”
