Bruce Wigo, International Swimming Hall of Fame executive director, is to speak at an event this weekend to raise funds for a local nonprofit that teaches youngsters to swim.

Known as an “aquatic historian,” Mr. Wigo will appear at The Josh Project’s Soulfood for Swimming fund-raiser. In addition to his speech, “The Most Incredible Story You’ve Never Heard,” the event features a dinner and silent auction.

Founded by Wanda Butts, The Josh Project was created in honor of her 16-year-old son, Josh, who drowned in August, 2006. The group provides swim lessons and water safety instruction for inner-city youth.

The event is 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the Atrium in the Ramada Toledo Conference Center, 3536 Secor Rd. Tickets are $50. For more info, go online at soulfoodforswimming2012.eventbrite.com.
