Bedford Twp. plans road upgrades

The Bedford Township board approved contracts with the Monroe County Road Commission for improvements to Lewis Avenue and Summerfield and Douglas roads at its regular meeting last week.

All of the projects will be done in the 2013-14 fiscal year, with most of the costs covered by federal and state money.

The Lewis repair project is estimated to cost $443,000 with the township's share being $75,800.

The road commission will pay $19,360 and the remaining $347,847 will come from federal and state grants.

Lewis between Pickard and Rauch roads will be milled, filled, widened, and given new signage and pavement markings.

The Summerfield project, for a segment between Monroe and Consear roads, will cost $298,220, with the township's share coming in at $51,800.

The road commission will pay $22,340 of the cost, and federal and state funding will provide $224,080.

The improvements will include drainage upgrades and new pavement, shoulders, and signage.

The work on Douglas will be done between Sterns Road and the Ohio line.

The cost is estimated to be $71,130, with the township paying $12,200 of that. The road commission's portion will be $6,050, and federal and state grants will account for $52,880.
