A northwest Toledo bank was robbed at gunpoint today, Toledo police said.
Two masked men robbed the Charter One Bank branch at 5911 Lewis Ave. shortly after 9 a.m. According to police, at least one of the robbers was armed with a handgun.
During the robbery, one of the suspects jumped over a counter and took cash from a bank teller's drawer while the other suspect stayed in a lobby. Both men fled the scene in what police said was a stolen car.
The getaway car was found minutes later several blocks from the bank. Police using a helicopter and dogs searched unsuccessfully for the suspects.
The amount of money stolen was not disclosed. The FBI Northwest Ohio Safe Streets Violent Crime Task Force is leading the investigation.
