A few flakes end Toledo's snowless-days streak
12/22/2012The snow that fell late Thursday into Friday morning may not have stuck, but Toledo's snowless-days streak is officially over.
The National Weather Service recorded six-tenths of an inch of snow Friday at Toledo Express Airport, based on melt water in a precipitation gauge there, Cleveland-based meteorologist Marty Thompson reported.
Toledo had gone 290 days since its last measurable snowfall on March 5, beating previous snowless streaks of 283 days in 2001 and 281 in 2010.
The light, fleeting snow in Toledo occurred on the back side of a vigorous winter storm that dropped much heavier snowfalls in Michigan, Wisconsin, and the Great Plains. In northwest Ohio, lake-effect snow blowing across from Lake Michigan delivered two-inch snowfalls in Van Wert and Lima on Friday.
