Repair of an I-280 overpass damaged last year when it was struck by a truck will close the freeway’s southbound lanes during off-peak hours for about four weeks starting Monday, the Ohio Department of Transportation announced.

Repairs will narrow southbound I-280 traffic to one lane that will be detoured through the Bahnsen Road interchange ramps back to the freeway.

The Bahnsen overpass was damaged in June when the hydraulic system on a truck carrying a roll-off container activated as the truck was moving and the container hit the bridge. Bahnsen, usually a four-lane road that provides access between the freeway and several truck stops, has been reduced to one lane each way since the accident.

Southbound I-280 is to reopen daily, including weekends, between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Repairs are expected to be finished in February, but the report said freeway closings are to occur only through January, weather permitting.
