More than 100 Point Place property owners will no longer be required to purchase flood insurance because their homes have been removed from the federal floodplain map near Detwiler Park, city officials announced.

The city of Toledo had submitted a "Letter of Map Revision" to the Federal Emergency Management Agency to revise the floodplain and the federal agency accepted the request. Effective Dec. 28, the affected properties were no longer within the one percent annual chance of flood discharge.

“The insurance requirement is now your option, and you may or may not wish to continue your flood insurance coverage,” the city wrote to the property owners.
