Residents receive more time to pay water bills

The city of Toledo is increasing the time residents and businesses have to pay water bills each quarter.

The Department of Public Utilities plans to change the due date for customers from 15 calendar days to 15 business days. Public Utilities Director David Welch said that would provide people with an extra two to four days to get the bills in on time, depending on weekends and holidays.

“It is intended this extra time will ‘nullify’ the length of time that our billing agent, Mail-It, and the U.S. Postal Service have DPU’s bills in their respective possession,” said a memo from Tom Crothers, commissioner, utilities administration, on the change, which is expected to occur by April.
