B.G. woman on poster from WWII to speak

BOWLING GREEN — Ruth Hoffman of Bowling Green, who was featured in a World War II-era poster promoting the role of women who worked on the railroads to replace men who had left for the military, will be featured during a brown-bag presentation Wednesday at the Bowling Green State University Women’s Center.

A retiree from BGSU’s Jerome Library, Ms. Hoffman worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad during the early 1940s and was pictured in a “Molly Pitcher” poster the railroad produced in 1944 to highlight the importance of women’s work to the industry during wartime.

Ms. Hoffman will discuss her experiences and insights on this historical period with Janet Parks, a distinguished teaching professor emerita. Ms. Hoffman plans to donate her copy of the “Molly Pitcher” poster to the BGSU Women’s Center. The event, free to the public, is noon to 1 p.m. at 107 Hanna Hall.
