Toledo's record high temperature for today was broken at midnight and climbed further until 4 a.m., but you won't be feeling quite that much warmth during the day.

Toledo Express Airport's 63-degree reading at 4 a.m. was seven degrees higher than the old mark set back in 1880, when temperatures were recorded downtown. The airport's temperature at midnight was 60.

The unusually warm air was ahead of a storm system that brought heavy rain to the Toledo area before sunrise. Jim Kosarik, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Cleveland, said the rain was responsible for a 10-degree drop in the airport temperature by 6 a.m.

The wind also shifted from the south to the northwest during that time, but Mr. Kosarik said temperatures will stay in the 50s for most of the day before becoming sharply colder in the evening when a cold front passes. Rain, with the possibility of a thunderstorm during the day, will change to snow behind the front, with light accumulations possible.

"The real front will come in tonight and tomorrow morning you'll really know the difference," Jim Kosarik, a "It'll feel like the 31st of January instead of late March of early April."
