WOODVILLE -- The Portage River overflowed its banks today after heavy rain Tuesday, but only minor flooding is likely, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service issued a flood warning this afternoon shortly after the Portage reached its 9-foot flood stage at the Woodville river gage. The river was expected to reach 9.3 feet overnight.

At flood stage, the Portage floods Trail Marker Park and other low-lying spots in the area.

The weather service measured 1.28 inches of precipitation at Toledo Express Airport on Tuesday, nearly all of which fell as rain -- and anything else melted. Another 0.32 inch of precip, had fallen today as of 5 p.m.
