Law enforcement officials held a news conference today to remind people in Lucas County that, as they venture out this weekend for St. Patrick's Day festivities, there will be extra patrols on the road to catch drunk drivers.

Area law enforcement agencies will have 250 extra man hours of traffic patrols today through Monday, Mark Woodruff, a detective with the Lucas County Sheriff's Office, said at a news conference today at Express Towing on Whtehouse Spencer Road in Monclova Township.

The overtime is federally funded, according to Lt. William Bowers, of the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Detective Woodruff said the county OVI (Operating a Vehicle while Influenced) Task Force will run two sobriety checkpoints later today through Monday on McCord Road at Airport Highway -- one in the northbound lanes and the other in the southbound lanes.
