Authorities searched the Maumee River near Waterville for three hours today looking for a reported sinking boat but the rescue operation was called off with no results after two hours, said the U.S. Coast Guard office in Detroit.

Petty Officer Adam Frey said the Coast Guard received a transmission at 7:30 a.m. over its Maumee Bay water tower that sounded like a person reporting a boat was sinking. The search, which included a Coast Guard helicopter from the Detroit sector, a Coast Guard boat stationed in Toledo, and firefighters from Waterville, Maumee, and Grand Rapids, was called offf at about 9:45 a.m., Petty Officer Frey said.

“We saturated the area and searched the whole river,” he said.
